Multi award-winning traveling photographer Timothy Allen, whom since 2008 has shadowed the film crews of the BBC documentary series Human Planet, has recently shared a variety of trench-tested tips for aspiring travel/documentary photographers around the globe.

Google has changed the ways in which we communicate with the world. There’s not a single soul out there that can deny this. With a wide portfolio of long-established and recent products including Google Search, Google Apps, Google+ and more, there’s so many ways to get involved with this worldwide communications leader.
Personally, I am proud to say that Google is re-shaping my life everyday. I currently have a rooted HTC Android Phone, providing me the flexibility and options of most of today’s latest models. With Google Maps and Google Voice, I can get from point A to point B without breaking a sweat and keep an organized log of transcribed voicemails which are also sent to my email account. My small business email is powered by Google Apps, which includes a calendar that is synched to my Android phone. No matter where I am, I can make appointments from my home office or on the fly and be on time, every time, all thanks to Google’s techno-rocking innovations.

The Tenth Anniversary of 9/11

After our nation was completely bombarded by media clips and replays of 9/11 this past week/end, I’ve been searching for a reflective experience that moves us forward, rather than holding us locked in a time loop repeating itself. Touré’s insightful essay presented with Dylan Ratigan has captured my attention and what I feel to be the piercing truth behind this history-altering event’s 10th anniversary.
Once Touré finishes his thoughts for the camera, we see Dylan caught and mangled by the discussion, presented in several quiet pauses. There is disgust and disappointment that is evident in these moments. Will we ever progress forward and let old wounds heal? Do we possess the courage to restore our country’s consciousness and choose not to live in an age of unprecedented fear? We must make these critical decisions and not allow the media to make them for us.
Perhaps we are intentionally disallowing ourselves to regenerate our scars. Our country loves to feel pain. It’s about time we start allowing ourselves to overcome these dragons and live forward… because that is what we must do to survive. The future of this planet and our children depend upon it.

It’s Called “Kerning,” Dear.

Here is a scenario that is not too uncommon in my household.
Often when I am with my fiancee, whom is a professional vocal performer and music educator, I will intentionally critique various typopgraphy elements in magazines, on business signs … the list goes on. It’s a common occurrence that often leaves her scratching her head, which is entirely understandable. I get it — not everyone out there is a super design nerd!
Fortunately, there is a great resource I’ve come across that can help clear up some of the confusion. For those subjected to my nerdy tendies whom are oblivious to terms such as kerning, tracking, or leading in the type world, check out Hensher Creative’s guide on typography, What the Heck is Kerning?, to enhance your understanding of my box-defying species. Creativity is a seperate language of its own, which requires training and recognition.
